1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form an agreement between you and the developer of Slate Launcher (“Slate,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). You must be legally able to enter into this agreement. If local law requires permission from a parent or guardian, you must obtain that permission before using Slate.
2. The Slate service
Slate is an Android home-screen replacement designed to provide a minimal and customizable launcher experience. Features may include Home, Slate Hub, Spaces, Focus, Insights, Slate Brief, themes, wallpapers, gestures, app search, shortcuts, and related settings.
Some features depend on your Android version, device manufacturer, granted permissions, installed apps, and system restrictions. The appearance or availability of a feature may therefore differ between devices.
3. Device access and permissions
Slate may request Android permissions or special access only when needed for features you choose to use. Depending on your setup, these may include access to installed apps, usage statistics, notifications, calendar, contacts, wallpaper controls, camera shortcuts, or other device capabilities.
- You control permissions through Android settings.
- You may decline or revoke optional permissions, although the related feature may stop working.
- You are responsible for reviewing the permission prompt and deciding whether to enable the feature.

4. Slate Pro, purchases, and billing
Slate may offer paid features through subscriptions, lifetime purchases, trials, introductory offers, or other in-app products (“Slate Pro”). Prices and available plans are shown in Google Play before you confirm a purchase.
- Payments are processed by Google Play and may also be supported by a subscription-management provider.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled through Google Play before the renewal date.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Google Play account.
- Refunds, billing disputes, taxes, payment methods, and purchase eligibility are generally governed by Google Play’s terms and applicable law.
- Where supported, Restore Purchases can reactivate an eligible entitlement associated with the same store account.
A “lifetime” purchase means access for the supported lifetime of the applicable Slate product, not the lifetime of any individual person, device, or company. We may change future pricing or plan availability, but this will not remove access already granted by a valid completed purchase except where required for security, fraud prevention, law, or service discontinuation.
5. Acceptable use
You agree to use Slate lawfully and responsibly. You must not:
- reverse engineer, decompile, bypass, or interfere with Slate except where applicable law expressly permits it;
- circumvent payment, entitlement, security, or feature-access controls;
- use Slate to distribute malicious code, violate another person’s rights, or break the law;
- misrepresent your relationship with Slate or use our branding in a misleading way; or
- attempt to damage, overload, or gain unauthorized access to any service connected with Slate.
6. Third-party apps and services
Slate can launch, display information from, or link to apps and services that we do not control. Google Play, Android, device manufacturers, subscription providers, weather or wallpaper sources, and other third parties operate under their own terms and privacy policies.
We are not responsible for third-party content, availability, security, policies, or actions. A link or integration does not mean that we endorse the third party.
7. Intellectual property
Slate, including its code, interface, visual design, name, logo, text, and original assets, is owned by or licensed to the developer and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms give you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use Slate on compatible devices for lawful purposes.
You retain ownership of content and settings that belong to you. You are responsible for ensuring that wallpapers, names, shortcuts, or other material you use with Slate do not violate anyone else’s rights.
8. Updates and availability
We may add, modify, suspend, or remove features to improve Slate, maintain compatibility, address security or legal requirements, or manage the product responsibly. Updates may be required for continued use. We do not promise that every feature will always remain available or work on every Android device.
We may discontinue Slate or a connected service. Where reasonably possible, we will provide appropriate notice for a material discontinuation.
9. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Slate is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee that Slate will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, compatible with every device, or suitable for every purpose.
Focus, Insights, screen-time, battery, weather, notifications, and similar information may be estimated, delayed, incomplete, or affected by Android and device restrictions. Slate is a productivity and personalization tool and should not be relied on for emergency, medical, safety-critical, or other high-risk purposes.
Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or warranties that cannot legally be excluded under applicable consumer law.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, or for lost data, profits, opportunities, or device availability arising from your use of Slate.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability relating to Slate will be limited to the amount you paid for Slate during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or the minimum amount required by applicable law, whichever is greater. These limits do not apply where the law does not permit them.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Slate at any time by uninstalling it and cancelling any active subscription through Google Play. Uninstalling the app does not automatically cancel a subscription.
We may restrict access to connected or paid features if we reasonably believe these Terms were violated, a purchase was refunded or fraudulent, or action is necessary for security or legal compliance. Provisions that by their nature should continue—such as ownership, disclaimers, and liability limits—remain effective after termination.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms when Slate, applicable laws, or our services change. The effective date at the top will be revised. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice in the app, on this website, or through the store listing. Continuing to use Slate after the updated Terms take effect means you accept them.
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect. A delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms are governed by applicable law, including any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.
